The Basics furniture painting class is a 4-week class, one day a week for 2 to 3 hours. In this class, you will start with a wooden box and leave with a fully prepped, fully painted trinket box for your home. Due to the size of the classroom, participants will be working on small pieces to ensure all of the information is able to be provided along with focused personal assistance. All of the information and techniques learned can be applied in practice to larger pieces of furniture.

  • Week 1-Learn to pick and prep a piece of furniture to paint. How to identify pieces that will give you trouble and what pieces to avoid. You’ll learn all about different methods of prepping and sanding and different types of sanding mediums. You’ll clean and prep your piece to get ready for the next class.

  • Week 2- Learn how to identify and repair common flaws in previously loved furniture. Develop an understanding of all of the different methods for priming a piece of furniture, and prime your trinket box to get ready for next week’s topics.

  • Week 3- Is all about painting. Learn all about the different types of commonly used chalk and clay-based furniture paint, paintbrush brands, and care, and get your trinket box painted.

  • Week 4- Learn all about the different methods for sealing or top-coating your furniture. Top-coat your trinket box, and add any decorative finishing touches and hardware.

There is an abundance of information to learn when it comes to painting furniture and this course will give you the foundation you need to create long-lasting works of functional art. This class is required to be completed prior to any advanced classes. Once you have signed up for the class, you will receive an e-mail containing a supplies list and directions. Kits for the class are available for purchase in our online store as well. Every basics class participant will receive a free box to work with during the class.
